Department of Foreign Languages

 

Our motto: “One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages ​​open every door along the way. ”




Our goal:

To teach foreign languages to students effectively and purposefully ​​ in the training of highly qualified personnel with modern knowledge and high moral qualities, to conclude cooperation agreements with foreign higher education institutions and to establish a system of permanent networking with their professors and students. Furthermore, we organize seminars, trainings and courses with experts in the field.

Currently, the department cooperates with Shanghai University, Yodju Technical Institute in Tashkent, University of World Economy and Diplomacy and the Uzbek State University of World Languages.

 

The main tasks of the department:

- implementation of educational and teaching-methodical, spiritual-enlightenment, scientific and scientific-methodical work;

- to develop students' reading, listening, writing and speaking skills;

- formation of skills to use English through new terms in general and legal English;

- formation of logical and critical thinking skills in students;

- to get acquainted with the legislation in English and to develop the ability to apply the acquired knowledge in practice;

- to develop the ability to analyze documents and laws of international level in terms of language;

- to prepare students for the TOLES exam, which is an assessment of the ability of future lawyers and practicing lawyers to speak English clearly, correctly, fluently and confidently in their work.         




Modules taught:

4 subjects in the bachelor's degree:

- English for lawyers (basic);

- German language for lawyers (basic);

- French for lawyers (basic);

- Legal English advanced (elective);

          1 subject in master's degree:

- Legal drafting (elective);

Scientific potential

By the beginning of the 2020 - 2021 academic year, the department has 2 doctors of philological sciences (PhD) and 1 acting associate professor.

By 2019-2020 the department has done:

- 1 scientific work;

- 13 in journals adopted by (Higher attestation commission);

- 9 international scientific articles;

-   8 articles in Scopus indexed journals.

Also

- 2 international scientific conferences.

 

Extracurricular activities:

There are 4 scientific clubs at the department:

1. YOUNG LAW MAKERS. The club members study, translate and propose imaginary drafts of new law packages and legal documents of English-speaking countries, there are around 40 members of the club, who are fluent in Uzbek-Russian-English.

 2. WRITE RIGHT. This club develops aspects of written speech in students; creation of written legal materials in English and their application in practice; learning and following language norms; serves to develop skills of interesting and meaningful narration of written speech in English and editing of written materials.

3. START LEGAL ENGLISH. The club aims to increase the level of legal English by increasing the vocabulary of the English language, the appropriate usage of new words, terms, phrases in various legal fields, checking the vocabulary using various interactive tests and reading detective stories.

4. BETA READERS. This club meeting is held once a week and includes reading and discussion of detective books in English. The Beta Reader competition is held during the trainings too and encompasses myriad activities aimed at revising reading techniques.

Teaching staff:

Currently, the department has 22 professors and lecturers.

Our teachers are constantly working on developing  their scientific career and sharing experience with foreign colleagues and improving their skills and knowledge.

Today, the department has 2 PhD holders, 1 acting associate professor, 6 senior lecturers and 13 teachers.

Teachers of the department are the authors of 1 textbook, 1 monograph and 2 textbooks.

In addition, 12 independent researchers take part in the educational process.
